Which is better- Real or Synthetic?

Synthetic Stucco

Synthetic Stucco

Stucco is one of the best materials available in the market that guaranteed to protect any structure. Aside from its benefits it is also used to design walls and ceilings.

In the market there are two types of stucco the real and the synthetic stucco.

  • Real or Masonry Stucco

Real stucco is composed of cement, water and inert materials such as lime and sand. It is usually applied to a firm base. Real stucco usually absorbs moisture since it is not waterproof. But even if it absorbs moisture it breathes and dry up quickly therefore, it does not leave any damage in the structure.

Real Stucco is a harder material compare to EIFS thus, if the tapped it will sound solidly. This type of stucco is proven more tolerable to any kind of physical abused.

  • EIFS (Exterior Insulated Finish System) or Synthetic Stucco

Synthetic stucco is the recently popular stucco in the market over 30 years now. It was originally designed as an alternative material for real stucco. Aside from the same appearance of synthetic and real stucco there are no other similarities with both types of stucco.

Synthetic stucco is waterproof and is adapted to residential structure (house stucco) because of its stylish and elegant look, flexibility and low cost. It is a light material that when tapped you will hear a hallow sound on it.

The main synthetic stucco problem is that when moisture is trapped on it there are no means for it to escaped thus, it creates premature damages on the structure.
